Does time has a starting point?

Sun rises. Time flows
Sun sets. Time flows.
New day. Again sun rises. Time flows.
Whatever happens, time flows.
But, when did time started to flow?

Let's assume it started to flow one billion years ago. Then next question comes out. That is, what happened before time started? For an event to happen, time must exist. For time to exist, events must happen. This problem is quiet fascinating. I have thought it for a long time. I have browsed through internet looking for a solution. I couldn't find any solid answer. Some say time doesn't exist at all. Some others say time is a closed loop. Everything repeats again and again. Scary, isn't it?

Let me explain my view on time and beginning of time.
Time is just an illusion. It is the illusory feature which connects present with past and future. If time did not exist, we may never relate past and future. We will always live in the present moment.
The way time is perceived by one person is different to another. Everyone feel time in their own way. I agree that one hour period is same for anyone. But the speed at which that time flows is different from one another. Even for a single person, it differs from situation to situation. One simple example is when you are in a lecture, you feel one hour as a long period. But when you are with your loved ones, one hour passes quickly. Therefore, in my opinion, time is not a universal concept. It is a concept that is embedded in each and every creature. Time is unique for each of us. What I feel as time is different to what you feel as time.

With my explanation on time in the previous paragraph, answer to our original question is quiet clear. Time starts for someone at the moment he/she comes to this world. For that person, time does not exist beforehand. Also, time ends at the very moment he/she leaves this world.

As a summary, time is unique for person to person. How one person look at time is different to another. Time starts for a person at birth. Starting point of time for a particular being is always the moment of entering into this world. Time ends for a being with his/her death.

Beyond Space Travel: An unseen territory of Transportation

From Land to sea to air (including space), transportation has evolved dramatically. The evolution has reached to a point where people believe that they are comfortable with present condition and nothing more to be developed in transportation. But is it really the case?

But before answering that question, let me quickly take you through the history of transportation and how and why it was developed. Since the start of human kind, they were able to move from place to place on foot. Thereafter, in order to travel faraway and move heavy objects, they used tamed animals such as donkeys, camels and horses. Then with the advancement of science, mechanised transportation was born. Starting with the cycles, cars, trains were the wonders done by the name of science. Our ancestors didn’t satisfy with well-developed land transportation systems. They went on to build ships and airplanes to fulfil their urges to travel by sea and by air. Lately, in a curiosity to explore our universe, human invented rockets, which is the present most developed mode of transportation. Eventually, it has been considered that, space travel is the ultimate end of evolution of transportation.

Yes, not only now we can travel anywhere in our planet, but also anywhere in our universe (given that, enough fuel and other resources are available). It is a good milestone to celebrate, but it is not the ultimate point of transportation.

In my opinion, we have missed out an important transportation requirement through-out the history. That is to move from one universe to another. I believe moving through universes also belong in transportation as it falls under the basic definition of transportation, “moving from one place to another”. However, not a lot of research have been done under this topic. Therefore, unfortunately we are in the starting point of the developing inter-verse travel, while we are in a considerably developed position in terms of intra-verse travel.

Although inter-verse travel seems a weird subject, many evidences suggest that universes other than the one we live in exists. According to Multiverse theory and Many worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics (MWI) put forward by Dr. Hugh Everett, there exists infinite number of universes and keep increasing for every moment of events. Hence, there must be a way to move through one another.

Several suggestions are presented by eminent scientists all around the world regarding inter-verse travelling. Even late physicist, Stephan Hawking has suggested that black holes can be a passage to another universe. More research on inter-universe travelling will eventually take us to a foreign universe. Therefore, under transportation, lot more focus must be given to inter-universe transportation, similar to the importance given for intra-universe transportation.

Therefore, what I suggest is, without focusing only on transportation within our universe, we must investigate this different aspect of transportation as a further development for transportation.

Thought Communication

Humans are considered as social beings, because they greatly interact with one another. The Primary means of forming and maintaining social relationships is by communication. Therefore, it plays a huge role in building and maintaining bonds with each other. Apart from non-verbal communication methods, such as body language and sign language, for every other way of communication, a language is used. In other words, language facilitates almost all means of communication, regardless of the fact that it is spoken or written.

Even though the process of communication is taken for granted, as we are trained to communicate from the very childhood, it indeed is a complex procedure. When a person wants to communicate a thought, he must first convert his thought in to words, and then speak it out. Then the receiver must listen to the words and convert it back into a thought. We might think it is an effective way of communication, as this procedure happens in a fraction of a second.

However, following are some disadvantages of this way of communication, despite the fact that it has been the usual method of communication for centuries;

Language Barrier

In the present way of communication, a language must be used as a medium to transmit thoughts. For effective communication, people involved in the interaction, must be able to understand a common language. For example, this fact makes harder for a Chinese to communicate easily with an Indian. Of course, they can use hand signals or get the help from a translator, but it won’t be very much effective.

Conversion

As I have mentioned before, when communicating verbally or in writing, first of all, the person must convert his ideas into words. Sometimes this conversion might be troublesome, as some of the thoughts are difficult to turn into words. Specially, when we are speaking in a non-native language, sometimes it makes harder for us to find the right term to describe our idea or thought. Even in the native language, some complex feelings or ideas are hard to put in to words.

Tip of The Tongue Problem

We all have faced this problem at least once in our life. When we are talking about our childhood friend, we know the name of that person, our mind can see him, but the word doesn’t come to the mind, it is just hanging on the tip of our tongue.

Interpretation

True that, there are definitive meanings for each word. But how one person perceives a sentence can be different to another. In conversations, this issue can result in conflicts. A rather hilarious example is when Jack says to John, “We should get married”, it can be interpreted as Jack wants both of them to get married to women or he wants to marry John.

Even though not much thought is given to these problems, at some point we all encountered such difficulties. You might just have shrugged those off saying what can we do for it.

But let me introduce my idea which can completely eradicate these problems and have a far better effective communication. It is called “Thought Communication”.

“Thought Communication”, simply is a process of communicating ideas or feelings just by sending the thoughts from one person to another, in its raw state, without any medium. Through communicating the raw feeling or the raw thought to another, will eliminate the problem that I have mentioned above. With the absence of a language, language barriers will not make communication hard. And the information, that is being lost in the process of conversion of feelings to words, will be preserved in this process. Hence it can be concluded that the thought communication is far superior to conventional verbal communication.

However, it must be noted that, still there is no proper technology developed for the successful communication of thoughts. But given, if enough effort is applied, it won’t be an impossible task. I hope someone reading this article will use my idea to come up with a right technology to enable “Thought Communication” or spread my idea to the people who are capable of doing so.

Teleportation Instead of Transportation

The following idea won’t become a reality on next day, next year, or next century, But…. one day in the future.

Transportation, is a house-hold term that we all are aware of. But what is teleportation? It is the theoretical transfer of matter from one point to another without traversing the physical space between them. Without the technical jargons, it means sending an object from A to B simply by making it disappear at A and making it reappear at B, using quantum mechanics applications.

I’m sure you may wonder what is really meant by disappearing an object. To explain this weirdness of “disappearing” something, first you need to know about some advanced physics theories. The atom is the smallest particle that can be found in all of the elements that exist in the world, even in the air you breathe, inside you and me. And within those atoms, sub-atomic particles like electrons and protons are present as well. These elementary particles, although mentioned as particles, they behave as waves also. The name given for this concept is “wave-particle duality”.  Hence they may act as particles at one instant, but change to waves at the next instant. Therefore a specific particle may stay at one place at this moment and in the next second it may be in another place, not by moving to the next place, but by disappearing from the previous place and reappearing at the other place, due to wave-particle duality. This may startle you, if you are reading about this alien behaviour of particle for the first time. But this what really happens in the world, at least according to theoretical physicists.

If you didn’t understand my explanation on the theory behind teleportation, that’s okay. Even I don’t really understand the complete theoretical basis behind teleportation. And you don’t need to understand it to get the essence of this article. Just keep in mind location of very small particles can be unpredictable, hence those can be anywhere at a given time.

Although this behaviour seems interesting, this cannot mould in to beneficial way for us in current state. However, if we can understand and control this particle behaviour and apply the same theory to much larger objects with the technology advancements, we will be fortunate enough to teleport almost all the matter.

In practical world only data on electron has been teleported, (source) yet. But we can be hopeful of experiencing teleportation of large objects in our life time. Then, transportation will be taken over by teleportation for the simple reason, that instead of taking a thing from A to B, teleporting from A to B may work, where this “thing” can be an object or a human as well.

But, finally, I would like to tell you, not to get too excited, because all these applications are still in theoretical stage, unsure of whether those can be applied in practical world. But I repeat that one day this concept may be used and eliminate the hindering non-value adding transportation from the world.

Layerical Classification of Organisms

Organisms can be classified on several bases. Most famously, they are categorized as vertebrates or invertebrates, based on the presence or absence of vertebrate.

The classification I’m going to introduce is different from conventional classifications. It is not based on physical or mental characteristics, but by the way organisms interact with other organisms.

For the presence, every organism found can be divided into 3 categories, called as layers. Those are layer ‘K’, layer ‘L’, and layer ‘M’.

Layer ‘M’ consists of organisms which interact directly with human. Almost all the animals whom we can see, ranging from blue whale, elephant to mosquitoes and flies along with birds, reptiles and etc… include under this category.

Layer ‘L’ consists worm-like organisms. This includes all the organisms we generally called as worms. I categorized worms to another group because, worms cannot interact with layer ‘M’ organisms. What I mean by interaction is identifying the existence, either by seeing or hearing or touching.

Layer ‘K’ consists of viruses and other micro-organisms. They are categorized separately because they cannot identify the existence of layer ‘L’ as well as layer ‘M’ organisms.

The least advanced organisms are in layer ‘K’. Comparing with layer ‘K’, layer ‘L’ organisms are bit more advanced. The most advanced organisms within these 3 layers are in layer ‘M’.

Still, human have found organisms which can be categorized into 3 layers. But there is no reason to think those are the only layers exist in the world.

Until human invent microscope, they were unaware of layer ‘K’ organisms. Therefore, it is not wrong to think that our technology is not that advanced to observe the other layers.

Scientists have found a layer less advanced to our layer, (which is layer ‘M’). But they have not succeeded to find another layer higher than theirs. Is that because humans’ reluctance to think of a group of organisms, who are more advanced than us.

Maybe layer ‘N’ consist of organisms who we think as god(s), or angels. Perhaps they may be categorized into next layer above it, layer ‘O’, with the existence of organisms with an intermediate advancement between human and god(s) in the layer ‘N’.

This is the right time to broaden our views on the world and the organisms living there. We must accept that our universe contains organisms who are not only weaker than us, but more powerful than us, also. Layerical organisation of organisms is an attempt to show the possibility of existence of such creatures.

Hi!

As the first post in this blog, I would like to briefly introduce myself and tell the reasons for starting this.

I am Kethaka, an undergraduate of faculty of Engineering, University of Moratuwa. I had my primary and secondary education at Prince of Wales' College, Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. In the leisure time, I think, think and think....

Actually, my leisure time activity lead me to start this blog. When I revealed the ideas that came to my mind about various aspects to others, they said those ideas are unrealistic and they do not think my ideas are going to work. But I believe my ideas are worthwhile and I hope there will be some other people in this 7 billion population, to encourage me and help me to shape my ideas.

Therefore in order to share my ideas with the whole world, I started this blog.

Welcome to my blog, to my ideas!!!!
